Greenhouse Ships

November 5th, 2009 · by Bill Hole

How many 12–metre–long sea containers does it take to ship a greenhouse from the Netherlands to Canada? In our case, 26. And they were loaded onto a ship late last week!

The greenhouses will be quite different than our existing structures. At the Enjoy Centre site, the greenhouse peak will be about the same height as the street light posts to the east of the building. The height of the new production greenhouse will allow inside temperatures to be managed with venting rather than with exhaust fans, as is now the case. In the retail greenhouse, the additional height will create a much more open and inviting space for customers. In the summer, it will also be cooler—an added benefit for customers and staff.

Thermoflor and Prins Group (two well-known Dutch companies) respectively manufactured the retail and production greenhouses. Once the shipment arrives, which should be in late November, the pre-fabricated greenhouses will go up fairly quickly. Prins Greenhouses of Abbotsford, B.C. will construct both the retail and production greenhouses. We expect both to be completed in April.

Now all we have to do is wait for the containers to arrive.
